Ford: Go Detroit Challenge.

Sector: Transport

Our brief: How can Ford Motor Company further contribute to the Detroit community by delivering sustainable, scalable mobility solutions that excite and invigorate the city?

What we did: 100%Open designed and delivered the Go Detroit Challenge – an innovation competition with our partners Devpost to find social entrepreneurs or app developers that could help better connect Detroit communities. To start with 100%Open undertook an ethnographic research study  focused on understanding the mobility challenges of low-income residents in Detroit who relied on public transport.

What happened: Participation in the Challenge was strong, with more than 500 people involved from around the world, generating more than 120 ideas. Successful idea submissions ranged from shuttle services to transport Detroit residents to and from work, bus scheduling apps, to ride-shares that connect residents to grocery stores. The winning teams shared $30,000 (US) in prize money, and are continuing to develop their solutions with the support of mentors from Ford and the Detroit business community.

“We have focused on access and transportation issues in our own backyard that will help us bring real solutions to Detroit.”
